Les propri\u00e9taires et promoteurs immobiliers invoquaient s\u00e9lectivement les traditions suburbaines pour exclure ou restreindre les expressions architecturales et commerciales asiatiques, tandis que certains r\u00e9sidents asiatiques ais\u00e9s renfor\u00e7aient parfois cette logique d\u2019exclusion afin de pr\u00e9server leur propre statut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019ouvrage met en lumi\u00e8re des moments cl\u00e9s de r\u00e9sistance et d\u2019adaptation, comme l\u2019opposition \u00e0 la construction du temple bouddhiste Hsi Lai \u00e0 Hacienda Heights. Les critiques locaux ont formul\u00e9 leurs objections en termes de r\u00e9glementation du zonage et de pr\u00e9occupations esth\u00e9tiques plut\u00f4t qu\u2019en termes d\u2019exclusion raciale, illustrant ainsi les m\u00e9canismes plus subtils de discrimination dans les banlieues multiculturelles.
